Venue Focus – CastleGate

I was lucky enough to be invited to exhibit at the latest wedding open evening at CastleGate a couple of weeks ago. It was a wonderful night and over 80 brides and grooms came through the door to see the space and meet wonderful wedding suppliers.

CastleGate is a new venue on the scene in Newcastle and only launched it’s wedding package in 2014. It’s a welcome addition to the range of venues in the city centre as it is so flexible. The Turbine Hall originally housed the turbines that produced the electricity for the city trams, now offers a space big enough to accommodate 250 guests for a sit down meal, it can also be cleverly divided to offer a great space for smaller weddings.

The ceiling is cavernous and the architecture of the building is where all the charm is held but add a bit of bunting and the festoon lighting and you suddenly have a grand venue with a cosy feeling – wonderful!

The blank canvas package is quite forward thinking for a venue of this size and location. A one off cost of £850 gives you full day hire of the Turbine Hall either at the weekend or mid-week for your event ,and also access the entire day before so your suppliers can get in and everything can be set up. CastleGate do have a list of recommended suppliers (featuring Ruby’s Tea Party) to help you with some suggestions but there are no restrictions on the suppliers you can choose from (refreshing) and you even get planning support from an on-site event coordinator who will be there on the day to make sure everything runs smoothly.

The style of this venue lends itself effortlessly to vintage styles.

Bunting is truly at home here and also the trellis panels that are provided by the venue to section off areas would make the fabulous ‘secret garden’ backdrop.

I can’t wait to get my hands on some weddings in this venue!
